Description
A former tavern on Main Street owned by David Jenks, this house was purchased by Ebenezer and Lucy Thatcher from John Gleason and William Keith in 1824. It was appraised at $967 in a judgment for Jesse Putnam of Boston against Ebenezer Thatcher four years later. Deeded back to Ebenezer and Lucy Thatcher in 1830, the house was sold to Warden Daniel Rose. In 1874 it was owned by James H. H. Hewett, a Civil War veteran, who left behind three Civil War Journals transcribed in a book entitled "Imperative Duty to My Country."
A fanlight doorway and classic entry were added in later years, which greatly transform the appearance of the house as seen today.
